David Astley joined the Pensions Department of Canada Life Assurance Company in 1982, qualified as a Chartered Insurer in 1987 and held a variety of pensions managerial positions before leaving to join the National Association of Pension Funds in February 1999.

After 3 years as Pensions Technical Manager he became Director of Benefits for the NAPF where he was responsible for advising the Benefits Council on policy regarding all aspects of upcoming UK and European pensions regulation and legislation. This involved regular liaison with all Government departments involved in the development of Government pensions policy. During his time at the NAPF he was a regular speaker at pensions conferences, as well as conducting radio and television interviews on behalf of the NAPF.

In February 2005, following a reorganisation at the NAPF, he joined Britvic Soft Drinks as Deputy Pensions Manager where he was responsible for converting the DC Pension Plan to automatic entry and preparing the Trustees of Britvic’s pension schemes for the Company’s Stock Exchange flotation.

In November 2005 David joined Trinity Mirror as Group Pensions Manager, where he has overall responsibility for the Pensions Office and the support provided to all pension scheme members, and all Trustee Boards.

He was appointed as a Director of MGN Pension Trustees Ltd in February 2006 and as Secretary to the Trustee in May 2008. He is also a Trustee / Director of, and / or Secretary to the Trustee of all the other schemes within the Reach plc Group.

During his time with the Group, David has been an elected member of the NAPF Investment Council, the NAPF Benefits Council and the NAPF DC Council. He is also a past Chairman of the NAPF Central London Local Group and the NAPF Local Groups Liaison Committee.
